Plot/summary
In a scorching heat day Mary demands a servant to fetch her a drink, Mary was making a pretend garden by sticking flowers into the hot dry earth, Mary tried to run up to her mother but her mother pushed her away. It was Mary's last glimpse of her mother. A really bad fever, cholera was going around Mary's parents house. Her mother and father died. Mary never caught the fever. She got a letter from her uncle Craven saying she had to go live in his mansion. Mrs. Medlock escorted her in a carriage there. Mary walked into her room, Mr. Medlock shut the door behind her and walked away quickly. It wasn't a child's bedroom. IN the morning Mrs. Medlock came into her rom and served her porridge and milk. Mary said it looked discussing and she would not eat it. So Mrs. Medlock said to just drink her milk then. Mary tried to get dressed but she always had servant to do that so it took a while. Mary went out side and saw an ivory covered wall and talk to Ben Weatherstaff. He said there was no door and then walked off. She asked the robin that was flying near by where the way to the garden. The bird led her too something rusty laying in the mud. It was the key to the Secret Garden. Every morning Mary got out of bed and rushed to the garden. A gust of wind lifted a patch of ivy and Mary saw the door. She opened the door with the key that she had found. Mary saw the branches and flowers, she thought that they were all dead but not completely. She got Dicken to come with her the next day. Dicken looked around amazed. he scraped a rose branch with his pocket knife and saw green, he said that everything was alive! Every day they worked in the garden. Then al of the animals came back to live there. Then that night she went down stairs because she heard crying. Her uncle Craven was his father. His name was Colin. He explained to her that he was going to die. He agreed to go to the garden. Mr. Medlock got really angry with Mary once she saw her in Colin's room. They were cousins. She said for Mary to get out! And Colin said NO! he ordered Mrs. Medlock. She still insisted and then Colin said DO WHAT I SAY! Mrs. Medlock said yes dear. Mary got up to leave and Colin said "Don't go" but Mary had to. The next day Dickon and Mary took Colin out into the garden. Colin gasped and said that he could feel it growing. Mary asked for Colin to get up and walk. "You can do it Colin walk! Come to me!" He walked for the first time. Every day they all worked in the garden and Colin grew stronger. The next day his father( Mary's uncle) came home. He heard children laughing in his wife's old garden. Colin and Mary burst out and said "It's Alive!''. Colin suprised his father by running and walking.
